Course Description
This integrated course is designed for students who wish to study a combination of Language and Literature. It focuses on contemporary writing and spoken English in use, complimented by a comprehensive study of short stories. It provides an opportunity to study prose fiction and non fiction, drama and poetry offering students extensive wider reading opportunities.
The course provides key skills to develop creative and editorial writing.
Assessment at AS level is through coursework and examinations in the Spoken Word and Fiction Studies.
3 units of work are assessed in Year 12 which leads to the AS qualification. Successful completion of the AS is a prerequisite for entry to A2 level.

At A2 level language skills are assessed through coursework activity and examination in writing for different audiences and purposes. Wider reading and genre studies are assessed in external examinations.
Students opting for this course should choose an additional 3 AS courses which compliment the qualification.
