The 16-19 tuition fund is one off funding for the 2020/21 academic year that is ring fenced for Sixth Form colleges to support students and mitigate disruption to learning arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. Ashton on Mersey Sixth has been awarded a fund allocation of up to £3,825.
The funding will be used to provide support for 16-19-year olds where their learning has been disrupted and they have a GCSE Maths and / or English grade of 4 or below. Although targeted students are identified based on their prior attainment in English and Maths, the funding can be used to support students in their learning across a variety of subjects.
Ashton on Mersey Sixth already provide small group support for both English and Maths GCSE’s as part of students normal timetable and this will continue. We also have a full time Learning Mentor and intervention program in place to support all learners that may not be working at their targeted grades.
The Post 16-19 tuition fund will be used to provide additional study resources for level 3 subjects specifically those highlighted as working below target grade and below a grade 5 in Maths and English. Alongside additional resources such as the Learning Mentor small group support sessions students will use these independently to support their progress in their level 3 studies.
We also plan on providing small group revision strategy and study skills support sessions. These will be constructed and run by our full-time learning mentor in addition to students normal timetables. To ensure continued development of diligent, organised and independent learners we acknowledge that these students would benefit from more support than others.
